Are those show plates or can they just put their plate number on a replica and run it?

I think the first car might be allowed to but the rest of them are a guarantee no.

The first plate I don’t know, but the rest should be fine. Classic cars are not subject to the same rules.

In NJ, a classic or collector vehicle is not required to run a front plate. Collector vehicles do not have to be 25 years or older, they simply need to meet a few requirements of significance, but the insurance is completely different for them. For example, many Vipers have collector registrations, and no front plate (not as though that stops any other owner from not putting the front plate on, but that’s different). Collector registration in NJ is a triangle sticker, and you just go to the DMV and they give you a new one each year. No messing around with any kind of inspection, just scrape and stick.

A previous owner of my SL had it registered as a collector vehicle. The owner I bought it from had it removed from the Collector status and it’s registered now like every other normal car. It will mean that if I ever wanted to put it back on a collector registration, I will have a lot more paperwork to go through (as I was told by the previous owner). Whether that’s really the case, I don’t know. I don’t plan to ever change it.

Wrong country mate. This show was in the UK.

I’m pretty certain the plate laws allow for US sized plates on the US cars. You’d know where to better search for the info, but I know my friend has a Euro E30 Touring here in the states, and he has a plain white Euro sized plate in the front with his NJ assigned plate numbers, and has never had an issue with that. I suspect that with historic vehicles that run other plates, there could be a way to register them with those foreign plates.

I know it’s possible here with a classic or antique car to get a set of period correct license plates and register them for the car. Just a lot of paperwork involved.

Plate size or shape isn’t a problem. It’s what’s on the plate. The number plate font needs to be at least 7cm in height I think for the UK. The first car might scrape by but with all the state identification, I doubt the others would.

A quick search shows that the font is the correct size, and most older cars wont get in trouble for it, but the issue is letter spacing rather than height. If a 12x6" plate is the only thing that fits, unless you draw attention to yourself, what I was reading said you’re unlikely to have any trouble as long as the plate is considered legible.

Yeah I reckon you could probably blag it and say it’s the only thing that fits. It might be fully fine depending on whether or not the State identication counts as a “background pattern”.

How can you mention Gateshead and not make numerous Get Carter references?

A smaller font of 64mm is allowed for JDM vehicles where the licence plates recess is smaller.

If a UKDM vehicle had it’s front replaced for a JDM one and a smaller licence plate was fitted, it would be a grey area.

I find it very satisfying that there’s an Americana festival in the UK.

It’s a free 3 day music/food event with bands all the way from the US of A. Really good atmosphere :)

Because I live near there and forget what it’s actually famous for. I have seen the car park IRL though. It’s really not spectacular!

Ha ha yeah, when you pull it down to build a new Tesco, it couldn’t have been that great in real life.
